MOSTRARE E CANTARE LA BRUTTEZZA SULLA SCENA DELLA COMÉDIE-ITALIENNE DI PARIGI : ZÉMIRE ET AZOR DI MARMONTEL E GRÉTRY (1771)
Résumé
Show and sing the ugliness on the scene of the Comédie-Italienne of Paris : Zémire et Azor of
Marmontel and Grétry (1771) · My contribution wants to identify the dramaturgical device that makes
Zémire et Azor paradigmatic of the beginning of the French aesthetic change concerning the exhibition
of ugliness at the theater in the modern age, a change that will naturally find its development during
the nineteenth century. The comédie-ballet of Jean-François Marmontel and André-Ernest-Modeste
Grétry is set up for the first time at the court of Fontainebleau in November 1771 for the engagement
of the Delfino of France with Marie Antoinette of Austria and will then be replicated with a notable
success at the Comédie-Italienne in Paris
Il mio contributo vuole individuare il dispositivo drammaturgico che rende Zémire et Azor
paradigmatico dell’inizio del cambiamento estetico francese riguardante la mostrabilità della bruttezza
a teatro nell’epoca moderna, cambiamento che troverà naturalmente il suo sviluppo nel corso dell’Ottocento.
La comédie-ballet di Jean-François Marmontel e André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry è allestita per
la prima volta alla corte di Fontainebleau nel novembre del 1771 in occasione del fidanzamento del
Delfino di Francia con Maria Antonietta d’Austria e sarà poi replicata con un successo notevolissimo
alla Comédie-Italienne di Parigi.
