Les nomina Tusca de Dioscoride

Abstract : Ancient authors gave us about the Etruscan language the so-called « glosses », i.e. Etruscan words (or words considered as Etruscan) with their equivalents in Greek or Latin. They are few (less than 60) and not always reliable. So thirteen of them, to be found in Dioscorides’De materia medica, are said to indicate the Etruscan names of thirteen herbs. But these names are Latin. They were perhaps held as Etruscan because they were used specifically by the inhabitants of Roman Tuscany.
