Abstract : This paper is dedicated to the linguistic analysis of the language particularities of forty recordings (dated June 1913) of regional French speakers from Berry, drawn from the Archives de la parole of the Brunot fund (available online at Gallica). The phonetic traits (apical /r/, "ouïsme", [we] for , etc.) essentially belong to archaic central French; the morphosyntactic particularities rather fall under the category of (slightly outdated) popular French. As for the lexical phenomena, they allow us to redraw or specify the area of certain regionalisms, which can appear likely broader than what one might have thought until now. The existence of most of these features (be they phonetic, grammatical or lexical) in French Creoles and regional French varieties overseas shows that they probably belonged to the spontaneous oral French of most of the French population in the colonial period.
