What is the state of French and Francophone historiography today? This is the purpose of this book published by the Comité Français des Sciences Historiques (French Committee of Historical Sciences) today with the decisive support of the GRHis of the University of Rouen Normandy. In accordance with the historical and statutory vocation of the CFSH, the book is structured around three major axes: major historiographical advances by period; new fields and transversal approaches; debates, controversies and emerging research. In the first part, it shows the extent to which French and francophone research has been fruitful in each of the major periods of history (P. Cosme), medieval (É. Lalou), modern (N. Le Roux, G. Lemarchand) and contemporary (O. Dard). The second one focuses on new fields and cross-cutting approaches: archaeology (F. Baratte), women’s history (A. Bellavitis), history of technology (L. Hilaire-Perez), economic history (O. Feiertag), history of families confronted with the experience of war (R. Branche), colonial and imperial studies (J. Frémeaux), digital history and digital humanities (Y. Combeau). As for the third part, the book gives an overview of recent debates and controversies as well as emerging research, through a debate on cultural history (R. Dalisson, C. Giraud, É. Mension-Rigau, A. Poidevin), the report of a book devoted to the question of the “right price”, the text of a conference on the transmission of knowledge (D. Barjot), an paper on Public History (F. Torres) and a review of the winners of the Daniel and Michel Dezès Prize, awarded since 1983 by the CFSH.
