Study of surface roughness of nickel electrodeposits
Résumé
Autocovariance functions (ACF’s) for rough surfaces of nickel electrodeposits are deduced from surface profiles determined by using microdensitometer analysis of micrographs of surface-shadowed carbon replicas. It is shown that the initial portions of the ACF’s have a Gaussian form. The root-mean-square surface roughness δ and the autocovariance length σ are deduced for each surface. Values of δ agree with corresponding values deduced from total integrated scattering measurements. Actually, surfaces of nickel electrodeposits are apparently random surfaces, so that more than one autocovariance length has to be defined. Finally, we discuss the relationship between the statistical parameters.
