Résumé
This paper proposes a new analysis of the association of a verb of perception, a NP, and a present participle: the verb of perception serves less as a full lexical verb than as a presentative marker introducing the state of affairs denoted by the present participle as a new information unit, the present participle functioning in this way as the main verb from a pragmatic, semantic, and syntactic perspective. Based on a qualitative analysis of empirical data, it is shown how this association “constructionalises” and evolves between Late Latin and Old French without nonetheless completing its constructionnalisation process.
Dans cet article est proposée une nouvelle analyse de l'association d'un verbe de perception, d'un SN et d'un participe présent : le verbe de perception est moins un verbe lexicalement plein qu'un marqueur présentatif introduisant le procès verbal dénoté par le participe présent en tant que nouvelle unité informationnelle, le participe présent étant alors le verbe principal aux points de vue pragmatique, sémantique et syntaxique. Sur la base d'un examen qualitatif de données empiriques, il est montré comment cette association se « constructionnalise » et évolue entre le latin tardif et l'ancien français sans pourtant achever son processus de constructionnalisation.
