Kommerell, Agamben and the postmodern gesture
Résumé
This article proposes a detailed analysis of the essay „Kommerell or on Gesture“
by the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben, paying special attention to the use of
quotations, the argumentative style and the philosophical implications of this short
text. There are significant differences between the conceptions of language and
gesture in Agamben and Kommerell that will allow us to sketch a paradigmatic
opposition between the postmodern episteme and that of George‘s circle, especially
from a political and anthropological point of view.
Cet article propose une analyse approfondie de l’essai « Kommerell ou du geste »
du philosophe italien Giorgio Agamben en attachant une attention particulière à
l’usage des citations, au style argumentatif et aux implications philosophiques de
ce court texte. Il s’en dégage des différences significatives entre les conceptions du
langage et du geste chez Agamben et chez Kommerell qui permettent d’ébaucher
une opposition paradigmatique entre l’épistémè postmoderne et celle du cercle de
George, notamment du point de vue politique et anthropologique.
