Study of thin corrosion films by in situ Raman spectroscopy combined with direct observation of nuclear reactions

Résumé

The rôle played by molybdenum in the passivation and corrosion of nickel alloys has been investigated by Raman spectroscopy and nuclear reaction analysis (NRA). NRA showed that the thickness of ‘passive’ films increased with the molybdenum content. When the molybdenum content in the alloy was high (greater than 10% atom), the films were formed of nickel molybdate NiMoO 4 , poorly crystallized and possibly hydrated.
